the tale of the mocking bird started about a week ago when Brad noticed a Mocking bird on our fence and pointed it out to Kate. " Look Kate. A mocking bird." he said as we pulled into the driveway.
"Dad, is he teasing me?" she replies.
We of course bust out laughing! It took me a moment to figure out where she go the idea. Then I remembered that I had told Brad not to mock me recently and she had asked what 'mocking' meant. She was obviously paying attention when I told her that 'mocking' meant to tease someone or make fun of their mannerisms.
Sunday evening we are all out in the front yard after saying bye Aunt Keri and we discover a little baby bird. Kate loves animals, especiallu baby animals and begins to run over to the bird. I hollar, "Kate, DO NOT TOUCH the baby bird, please."
She stops dead in her tracks (which is highly unusual) and turns to us with a horrified look.
"Why? Will he Mock me?" she asks.
Once again we bust our laughing immediately. The little bird managed to hop it's self across the road to the neighbors house and we left for a baseball game.
the next morning I go to twist open the blinds in my bedroom and catch a glimpse on paisley jumping around. With a closer look I realize she is pouncing on and tossing in the air...the baby bird!
My first thought was: Hooray! Paisley found the 'bird dog' in her!!
Then I realized I couldn't let her destroy the bird in the backyard, so to the rescue I go. Paisley was so proud of herself, it made me a little sad to put her up in her dog run. The little bird was in shock and shaking a little but besides a few missing tufts of hair he seemed whole. I put a little towel out and using a rag I placed him on the towel. This way I could tell if he was moving around and find him easily. I took kate out and we learned about how not to touch baby birds and we checked up on him periodically. He stood and then he moved a little and thats when I decided he woudl need to "fly away". I could not have the dog locked up all day and kate wanted to check on the bird every 5 minutes. Life had to move on. So while Kate was taking her bath, I ran out side and took the bird to front yard and then around the side of the house. I figured he would eventually fly away.
An hour later the bird was gone and we celebrated the little baby bird survival.
it was errand time so I packed up my bag, kate put her shooes on and we opened the door...
there sat the little baby bird. On our doorstep.
** Update***
the bird has stop showing up on the door step and there are no squished birds on the road.
